TV Show: The Expanse
Episode Title: The Monster And The Rocket
Original Air Date: April 12, 2017
Episode Number: 2×12
A discovery pushes Naomi and Holden apart and sets the Roci crew against each other.
Okay, show, you got me there with Naomi and that Belter in the end. I thought Naomi was making a huge mistake in opening the door and letting refugees in, but she’s very lucky it worked out in the end mostly thanks to that Belter who helped corral the people and even sacrificed himself so that Naomi could go back on the ship. “You’re not finished yet.” I actually teared up during this scene even though it was cheesy and somewhat predictable.
I really like Melissa, the Weeping Somnambulist (still the best ship name) captain and pilot and I think it’s due mostly to the actress. She gives Melissa that gravitas and warmth that the character calls for. I teared up when she told Naomi “You did good today” and I think Naomi earned her trust and respect during this whole ordeal.
Seeing Holden obsessing over the proto-human was scary and I did not like seeing that side of him. I know he means well, but there’s no way he and the crew can prevent this from getting out of hand or from going to other stations and planets in the system. This is why it’s important to get a lot of information and the facts first before they go on a mission. They can’t half-ass this anymore and they need help from someone who wants to stop this (i.e. Chrisjen).
Errinwright, you magnificent bastard. I thought he was going to commit suicide and take the Martian representative with him, but no, he kills the Martian and then threatens Mao and Chrisjen and promises to raise hell for both of them: Mao for throwing him away like a rag doll after Mars stepped up to the plate and Chrisjen for not lifting a finger to help him with the interrogation/inquisition. For the first time, I’m actually scared of Errinwright and scared for Chrisjen’s behalf.
I enjoyed seeing Cotyar and Bobbie spar and bicker like children while going on a trip with their mom (Chrisjen). How adorable was Bobbie’s reactions to hearing Chrisjen curse and also her eating (more like scarfing, lol) those cucumber sandwiches? Didn’t Earth feed this girl that she was that hungry? 😅
Loved this exchange between Cotyar and Bobbie:
“My IQ tested too high to be a marine.”
“And your morals tested low enough to be a spy.”
I can’t believe there’s only one episode left, but I’m glad that the show has been renewed for a third season. It’s going to be a looooong wait.
“You give a monkey a stick, inevitably he’ll beat another monkey to death with it.” – Errinwright, foreshadowing of things to come?
“Just get to the fucking point.” – Chrisjen doesn’t mince her words.
