TV Show: Fringe
Episode Title: Amber 31422
Original Air Date: November 4, 2010
Episode Number: 3×05
The alternate universe Fringe Division investigates a shocking breach of security when a twin frees his brother from a quarantined Amber area. As the team sets out to crack this sophisticated case, Walternate experiments over there more with Olivia as she reenters the tank. Meanwhile, visions of Peter continue to haunt Olivia about returning to the “other side”.
Fuck yes, Olivia is almost back!!! Her telling Walternate that she didn’t go anywhere and all she saw was black made me fist pump so hard. There’s the Olivia I love and I can’t wait for her to cross back to her world and to suck it to Walternate and Brandon. This is gonna be good. The Peter in her mind finally came through and she finally listened and all will be right in the world.
The phone call to Ella and hearing Ella’s voice was heartbreaking especially when Olivia smiled. Seeing her coming out of that tank with all these questions in her head just makes me want to give her a hug. No one can imagine what she’s going through and the types of emotions she’s experiencing right now. As if she hasn’t been through enough as it is in her universe, she gets experimented on here, too. 😓
I’ve forgotten the Ashmore twins were on Fringe until I watched this episode again. So cool. I still can’t tell them apart, but the one who was amber-ed is Aaron Ashmore, who’s now starring in the awesome show Killjoys (I highly recommend it if you’re looking for a fun show to watch).
The story with the brothers was a little sad, but Joshua redeemed himself in the end there by letting himself get amber-ed so that Matthew and his family can finally live in relative peace and not worry about the Fringe Division breathing down their necks. Olivia threatening Matthew one last time and then rescinding it was good. Wonder what that was about. Guess it was her need to be correct about her theory.
It’s crazy that I can tell this Olivia is not Earth 2’s Olivia just by looking at Olivia? She still has Fauxlivia’s mannerisms and sunny disposition, but it’s subtly muted, I think. Plus the fact that she’s wearing a lot less mascara/eyeliner than Fauxlivia lends itself to that as well.
Just the way Anna Torv handles this version of Olivia pretending to be Fauxlivia and not knowing that she’s really Olivia is so fascinating. She’s not exactly Olivia, not exactly Fauxlivia, but she’s a combination of both. And there’s a distinction to all three of these portrayals. Tatiana Maslany, who? I always maintain that Torv was the original Maslany and I still stand by this assessment. Such a shame that she didn’t get any kind of fanfare or hype about the different nuances of all the Olivia characters just like Maslany has gotten on Orphan Black. I love both actresses, though, but I will be forever bitter that Torv didn’t get any love back then.
Lastly, the reveal that the people quarantined in amber are still technically alive was quite shocking. If that got out, for sure people would be demanding to remove their families from the amber and compromise the whole place. Walternate, what have you done?
