Episode Title: Honor Thy Fathers
Original Air Date: May 10, 2017
Episode Number: 5×21
Oliver returns to the mayor’s office and faces one of his most pressing issues yet – the forced release of dozens of violent criminals prosecuted by Adrian Chase. Meanwhile, a crate is delivered to Oliver’s office containing a mysterious corpse encased in concrete.
Kinda weird that what happened in last week’s bottle episode was never addressed in this episode (unless I missed it?). How many days/weeks have passed since last week’s episode?
I thought this was a good episode. I’m just really getting tired of Oliver constantly doubting himself and always needing a pep talk from Felicity, Diggle, or Thea. How many times do we have to hear them tell him that he’s a good man, he’s not like his father, he’s not a killer, et cetera? Can we please put a stop to this next season? It’s getting very tiresome. Come up with new areas of conflicts, please, writers.
I knew Chase surrendering was way too easy and of course it was part of his master plan after all (judging from the previews for next week’s episode). Him kneeling in front of Oliver was surprising and what’s even more surprising was that he believed what Oliver said about his father wanting to disown him and how he’s ashamed to be his father. Oliver and team should know better and had their alarms raised when Chase caved so easily.
I groaned at the return of the flashbacks, but they were actually okay this time around. I just hope the writers get rid of this device next season because these flashbacks have lost their relevance since sometime around season three.
Glad to see Thea back. Seriously, why is she not in all of the episodes? Can Rene go and Thea be part of Team Arrow again?
I teared up a little when Thea and Oliver were talking about missing their parents. Oliver saying “I miss both of them. Everyday.” hit me right in the gut.
So Rene not showing up at the hearing is not on purpose, right? I’ve a feeling Chase put his plan into motion and he went after Rene first.
It was cool to see Oliver wearing the Green Arrow suit again. About damn time. And damn right Felicity has a way with words.
