Episode Title: Inner Child
Original Air Date: April 7, 2009
Episode Number: 1×15
Just seconds before a building is demolished, a mysterious mute child that has been living alone underground is discovered. When the FBI’s Fringe Division investigates, the boy forms an unspoken connection with Agent Olivia Dunham. Meanwhile, an especially gruesome serial killer resurfaces and showcases his “artistry” by displaying his work publicly. As the boy gradually assimilates into a new environment, Olivia and the team must race against the clock to prevent the mad man from causing further massacre.
Oh my God, I am such an idiot. This is probably the third or fourth time I’ve seen this season and it didn’t occur to me that the boy might be an Observer. 🤔 I don’t know what that says about my powers of deduction (nonexistent) and my memory (very bad), lol.
How cute was Olivia throughout this episode with the boy? She’s very good with kids and we see this with Ella and her interaction with the boy just proved that she’s not only great with her niece, but she’s great with kids in general. So adorable seeing them interact. I loved the M&Ms scene and I loved the forehead kiss she gave him in the end. Olivia was so gentle and caring towards him when she was trying to explain why she needed his help in catching the Artist.
Olivia going after the Artist on foot and then stabbing him after getting the better of him was great to see. I always love watching Olivia running after a suspect on foot and punching said suspect and apprehending them. How cool was it when she scaled that wire gate like a pro? It would have taken me several times to scale that and it certainly wouldn’t have looked as cool as her.
I thought it was an interesting characterization to have Olivia not liking yellow M&Ms and how she took all the yellow ones from the packet because she just doesn’t want to eat them. I cracked up later in the episode when Rachel asked her if she had anything to eat and she just said “M&Ms.” Oh, Liv. She needs to look after herself better. I volunteer as tribute!
Lastly, Peter remarking about the scar on his GI Joe toy soldier: “Funny, I always remember his scar being on the other side” made me smile. I see what you did there, show!!!
