Episode Title: Viva Cuba
Original Air Date: January 6, 2017
Episode Number: 1×09
Elena gets a congratulatory letter that leaves a bitter taste in her mouth. For a school project, Alex interviews Lydia, who reveals a family secret.
Lydia’s story about her leaving Cuba and leaving her older sister behind and her dying was so sad. Cubans must be so proud of this show and that they have a show that they could call their own and relate to. We definitely need more shows about diversity and I’m glad this is another one to add to the list that includes black-ish and Fresh Off The Boat. Keep ’em coming, Hollywood.
Elena coming around on the whole diversity thing was nice to see. She can be a bit too much sometimes, but I’ll cut her some slack since she’s still young. It’s a good thing Penelope and Lydia are good role models who always/usually give her really good advice.
Does Penelope’s wall really have Elena and Alex’s placenta? WHY!?! Lol.
Poor Dr. Berkowitz always getting friendzoned by Lydia.
