Episode Title: With Friends Like These
Original Air Date: February 10, 2017
Episode Number: 4×01
Queen Mary, unsure who to trust, tests her brother James to ensure his loyalty after hearing of his meeting with John Knox. Queen Elizabeth agrees to help Lord Darnley, in an attempt to sabotage the powerful suitor’s relationship with Mary.
I didn’t know Reign was coming back so soon so this was a pleasant surprise! I have missed these characters and their shenanigans and royal machinations. We also got to see a couple of new characters who might end up as being power players.
Leeza, one of Catherine’s daughters, is back in France and is ordering her mother around. She should know better than to do this since Catherine doesn’t do well when she’s under someone else’s thumb. It’s going to be interesting seeing Leeza, Catherine, and Claude dance around each other now that Leeza is going to be staying in France indefinitely.
Loved Catherine and Claude working together to kill off Martel. I laughed throughout the whole scene with them discovering Martel’s body.
Catherine: Act shocked.
Claude: I am shocked!
Catherine: Even better.
Catherine: The tears are a bit much.
Claude: The tears are real.
LMAO. Too freaking hilarious.
I feel bad for Claude, though, if Leith is really dead.
Speaking of dead, I have totally blocked off the fact that Lola was beheaded by Elizabeth last season. So sad. Now Mary has no more female friends to talk to aside from Greer. I really hope Greer is going to stay in Scotland with Mary instead of going back to France with her husband. At least for the duration of this season.
Mary putting James in his place was GREAT. Him playing both sides with her and Knox is not going to end well for him so I really hope he’s severed ties with Knox just like he said in his last scene with Mary. Blood is thicker than water, James. Knox is not going to keep his word and even if Elizabeth and Mary end up killing each other, it doesn’t mean James can easily rise to the top.
Gideon being a good person and giving good advice to Elizabeth about Knox and him pitting her and Mary against each other. Good thing Elizabeth listened to him and even let Narcisse go.
Interesting offer from Darnley. Let’s see if he does end up staying in England or if Mary somehow convinces him to come to Scotland to marry her. I wonder why Darnley’s mother was hellbent on Elizabeth not meeting her son. Is she Scottish?
Great start to the last season of this show. Can’t wait to see how things unfold from here on out!
