Episode Title: The Murder of Jesse James
Original Air Date: January 23, 2017
Episode Number: 1×12
Flynn teams up with legendary outlaw, Jesse James. Together they cut a bloody swath across the American frontier. Hot on Flynn’s trail, Lucy, Wyatt, and Rufus enlist the help of an iconic Marshal to help bring the fugitives to justice.
Really liked this one. Lots of turmoil within the team starting with Wyatt and him wanting to kill Jesse James which stems from his wish to undo his wife’s death by killing his wife’s killer or banishing him from existence. Lucy also had her issues to deal with and her feeling guilty about forgetting her sister and not wanting to do this job anymore, that she just wants to go home and find her sister. And we have Rufus dealing with the consequences of him standing up to Mason in the last episode: Mason is now training Jiya to be a pilot so that Rufus will no longer be considered indispensable, thus making his threat that Rittenhouse can’t harm him moot.
Jesse James was pretty good-looking so I agreed with him when he said that at least the two marshals he killed died looking at something pretty, lol. Lucy shooting him was a shock, but I should have expected it. She still wants to preserve history and keep it the same as it was so there is that.
Flynn going back in time to bring back Emma, one of the original Lifeboat pilots was interesting. Rittenhouse must be even worse that this woman would fake her death, stay back in the past, just to escape the clutches of Rittenhouse. Damn. I can’t wait to find out what she has to tell Flynn. I got a kick out of seeing The Hunger Games book in her cabin. Rufus’ reaction to seeing all that technology was great.
Also great? Rufus’ lines about the Lone Ranger in this episode and this one was my favorite: “The Lone Ranger’s black? That’s….awesome!” I also cracked up at these two Rufus lines: “So it’s like the crazy version of Blazing Saddles” and “That’s not exactly Google Maps, is it?”
Lucy looked great in her cowboy gear and just when she looked all calm, cool, and collected after she came out, she gets on her horse and falls off on the other side, lol. I loved that little detail the show put in. Also loved her line to Bass: “You’re not escorting me, I’m helping you.” Damn right.
It was amusing (to me) to see Colman Domingo on here (Strand from Fear the Walking Dead) playing the Lone Ranger.
The last scene with Rufus and Wyatt was very, very good. What’s Rufus going to do after that plea from Wyatt to help him? Wyatt wants to not only save his wife, but to also save the other two women his wife’s killer killed.
Mason is the fucking worst. Threatening Jiya like that? Rufus is going to beat his ass.
